Alice came to a fork in the road. "Which road do I take?" she asked."Where do you want to go?" responded the Cheshire cat."I don't know," Alice answered."Then," said the cat, "it doesn't matter."
"So long as I get somewhere," Alice added as an explanation. "Oh, you're sure to do that," said the Cat, "if you only walk long enough."
"All right," said the Cat; and this time it vanished quite slowly, beginning with the end of the tail, and ending with the grin, which remained some time after the rest of it had gone. "Well! I've often seen a cat without a grin," thought Alice; "but a grin without a cat! It's the most curious thing I ever saw in my life!"

I am diagonally parked in a parallel universe. Like Arthur Dent from "Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy", if you do not have a Babel Fish in your ear this blog will be completely unintelligible to you and will read something like this: "boggle, google, snoggle, slurp, slurp, dingleberry to the power of 10". Fortunately, those who have had the Babel Fish inserted in their ear, will understood this blog perfectly. If you are familiar with this technology, you will know that the Babel Fish lives on brainwave radiation. It excretes energy in the form of exactly the correct brainwaves needed by its host to understand what was just said; or in this case, what was read. The Babel Fish, thanks to scientific research, reverses the problem defined by its namesake in the Tower of Babel, where a deity was supposedly inspired to confuse the human race by making them unable to understand each other.

Just a small aside on local politics : ~Today there was a small drop of sanity in the world. The state election was held. The incumbent Labor government was returned for an historic fourth term. The Labor Party is predicted to hold 60 seats in the 89 seat Parliament thus attaining a clear majority. The expected seats are as follows: ~ - Labor Party - 60 seats
- Liberal Party (conservative coalition with the Nationals) - 8 seats
- National Party (conservative coalition with the Liberals) - 16 seats
- The Greens - 0 seats (unfortunately)
- Family First (conservative party whose preferences go to the conservative parties) - 0 seats.
The Overall Result is: ~
Sane party = 60 seats
Conservative nutjobs = 24 seats
Conservative religious nutbag party = 0 seats
It is a great day for the non-conservatives. :)

Nice one. Cop that Johnny! A big "Well Done", with capitals and all...:)
I liked your breakdown catagories. I'm surprised at the Greens result though, I hope we can do a little better than that down here soon...
It'll be a bot lop-sided though. Do they have enough seats on one side?
At least the "Conservative religious nutbag party" had to take their streamers, holy pictures and autographed copies of Torquemada's "Rules for Repression", back to the little hole they inhabit with their dreams of the 1950s (and the 1450s)
RE queenie:
I couldn't have expressed it better myself :)
I followed the election on the ABC news radio. Although I'm happy with the results, I'm concerned with the 2% swing towards the FF (Faith First). It is the highest shift in the election toward any party.
RE roya: Yes, I agree, the swing towards the FF is something to be watched.
In Queensland, the FF is trying to be the answer to the failed One Nation Party under Pauline Hanson, which started like a bullet and fizzled out like a firecracker.
I hope FF goes the same way.
You guys are lucky! In the UK, we have both Labour and the Conservative pandering to the religious right. The only option I have, is to vote the green party, or the monster raving loony party!
RE cod:
There is a bit of that happening here too. I am hoping that australians don't confuse their personal faith/religion, with politicians who want to use their faith for political gain.
it's interesting how your politics mirrors ours in a way.
our green party is similar to yours(it has about as much influence)& you have to fight off the religious nut-bags, too.
Also, i see by cod666 comment that the U.K. government is being inundated with
christian wackos also.
What is this world coming to???
Hurray!! Congratulations Queensland from all us lefties in Canada. Every progressive victory keeps another candle burning in our dark neocon world. Now please try to inspire the rest of your beautiful country to get rid of Howard the quacking yankee duck. BTW I'm not at all concerned to see the Family Fruitcakes jump in the polls to an astonishing two per cent. All I can say about that is...Crikey! With those kind of numbers one croc, or a mean sting ray, could probably take care of them all...
RE simon: Unfortunately, this was only a state election, but I hope that this will translate federally.
