BEEP! BEEP! IT'S ME.

"Begin at the beginning, and go on till you come to the end: then stop." (Lewis Carroll, 1832-1896)

Alice came to a fork in the road. "Which road do I take?" she asked."Where do you want to go?" responded the Cheshire cat."I don't know," Alice answered."Then," said the cat, "it doesn't matter."

"So long as I get somewhere," Alice added as an explanation. "Oh, you're sure to do that," said the Cat, "if you only walk long enough."

"All right," said the Cat; and this time it vanished quite slowly, beginning with the end of the tail, and ending with the grin, which remained some time after the rest of it had gone. "Well! I've often seen a cat without a grin," thought Alice; "but a grin without a cat! It's the most curious thing I ever saw in my life!"

Fortunately, those who have had the Babel Fish inserted in their ear, will understood this blog perfectly. If you are familiar with this technology, you will know that the Babel Fish lives on brainwave radiation. It excretes energy in the form of exactly the correct brainwaves needed by its host to understand what was just said; or in this case, what was read. The Babel Fish, thanks to scientific research, reverses the problem defined by its namesake in the Tower of Babel, where a deity was supposedly inspired to confuse the human race by making them unable to understand each other.

Ted Haggard Comes Clean

HYPOCRITE : 1 : a person who puts on a false appearance of virtue or religion2 : a person who acts in contradiction to his or her stated beliefs or feelings

Matthew 7: 3-5 - "And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother's eye, but perceivest not the beam that is in thine own eye? / Either how canst thou say to thy brother, Brother, let me pull out the mote that is in thine eye, when thou thyself beholdest not the beam that is in thine own eye? Thou hypocrite, cast out first the beam out of thine own eye, and then shalt thou see clearly to pull out the mote that is in thy brother's eye."

"The fact is I am guilty of sexual immorality. And I take responsibility for the entire problem," Haggard wrote. "I am a deceiver and a liar. There’s a part of my life that is so repulsive and dark that I have been warring against it for all of my adult life."

I got a great deal of satisfaction from this, as I remember this Haggard twit clearly from Dawkin's documentary. Of course, they would still claim that Ted is not a hypocrite, in that he strongly believes that what he has done is wrong, and he's just wrestling with his personal demons... blah blah blah. To me, that's what is so sick and tragic about cases such as this - their religion makes them despise themselves for simply being what they are, forcing them to live a lie to conceal it. What a waste of a life.

Poor Ted, a victim of the very insane doctrine he spews out on others. Poor, poor Ted. Let's all feel sorry for Ted, brave, brave victim of eeeevil! Spoooooky spoooky eeeevil!

The Weasel is doing the typical contrition/rehabilitation dance of the less-than-responsible. It makes me sick.

Do not mistake Ted's actions for love. This is just typical architypical Alpha-male Dom behavior. According to a friend of mine who once had a meth problem, meth makes you think you are the most witty and important thing in the room. Like an ego like Ted's needed that kind of help.

RE breaker

This seems to be one of the failings of organized religion, but probably especially christianity, the notion that irresponsible behaviour is ok as long as you say sorry.

What bothers me about his confession is he talks about the part of him that is quote;so repulsive & dark that I've been warring against all my life He knows that other pious Christians will be nodding their heads & thinking how horrible they are & thank god we are redeemed not like those horrible dark sinners. I'm sure they've conviced them selves it's the "escorts" fault anyway.

RE: " I'm sure they've conviced them selves it's the "escorts" fault anyway."

This is the rationalization of many religious beliefs. The fault, in their eyes, doesn't rest with themselves, but with some external force which coerced them into "sinning."

It is the way to abrograte all individual resposibility, the fault isn't in themselves, but in others.

Lovingly removed? What is that supposed to mean exactly? I wonder why he can't just say that they sacked him because he's a hypocrit.

I'm actually a little ashamed of myself, Beep.

I was cheering out loud when this guy got done. Hypocrite or not, the schadenfreude that I felt was pretty gosh-darn strong. Not proud of this, but, well, the guy deserved to be taken down a peg or two.

Mind you, this sort of thing didn't kill off Jimmy Swaggart's career. Worse luck.

RE dikki:

I think he deserves to be considered a hypocrite. He probably doesn't acknowledge how much damage he does to people, by projecting his own hatred of himself onto other people.

Funny, christanity says that most people are going to be sorry and in hell.

God bless ;)

RE: "Funny, christanity says that most people are going to be sorry and in hell."

Christianity teaches that man can be saved from sin through the confessing of sin to god. Supposedly, then if man confesses his sin, he is saved through the grace of god and he can avoid hell.

The "all who believeth in me shall not perish, but have everlasting life" part. I am sure you remember it.

Therefore, a christian is taught that irresponsible or "sinful behaviour" can be forgiven by god as long as the believer is sorry for their sins.

Saying sorry to god supposedly places the believer into a state of grace where sin is forgiven and they can avoid hell.

As all people are supposedly sinners, (because of the serpent flapping it's jaws), it is through the confessing of sin,(saying sorry to god, that will save them from hell.

Christianity teaches that if you believe that jesus came to save you from sin, (irresponsible behaviour),that you can be saved from hell through this believing in him and through the repentance of your sins.

The repentance of sin is basically saying "sorry."

Christian - "Sorry I killed my grannie with a pickaxe. I will never do it again."

God - " That's ok. I know you believe I exist and that I can save you from sin, so I forgive you. Just don't do it again and remember to kiss my arse more often and I won't send you to hell."

What greater vulgarity can there be than for an omnipotent being to grant a Get Out of Hell Phrase: Sorry, My Bad, and then condemn a non-bliever, who has lived a moral life, to spend eternity in the fires of hell. Not mention the inocent who die unbaptized.

Your comment reminded me of this post at Landover Baptist Church.

It's pretty funny, but also brutally sick.

Beepbeep.

It's repentance, not just saying ‘I’m sorry.’ Repentance from sin is the turning away and forsaking of sin. If I do something wrong and say ‘sorry God!’ and then turn around and do it again, or something similar, will I be forgiven? No.

remy.

If you cut out a bunch of paper figures, then decide to save a few and to throw the rest in the garbage, who can tell you ‘You can’t do that!’? And, if there is no God, than what is morality? And also, baptism doesn’t get you into heaven.

"It's repentance, not just saying ‘I’m sorry.’ Repentance from sin is the turning away and forsaking of sin. If I do something wrong and say ‘sorry God!’ and then turn around and do it again, or something similar, will I be forgiven? No."

REPENTANCE: 1. deep sorrow, compunction, or contrition for a past sin, wrongdoing, or the like.
2. regret for any past action.

http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/repentance

CONTRITION: 1. sincere penitence or remorse.
2. Theology. sorrow for and detestation of sin with a true purpose of amendment, arising from a love of God for His own perfections (perfect contrition), or from some inferior motive, as fear of divine punishment (imperfect contrition).

Repentance or contrition is saying sorry and of course when people say sorry they are supposed to mean it.

They are also supposed to reflect upon said deeds and make changes which they hope would limit their desire/ability to "sin" again.

Sometimes people promise to never do such deed again, but it is NOT, by definition, mandatory.

Churches would be empty if people were absolutely capable of not doing the same thing, or similar things, over and over again.

Ted Haggard will be saying sorry to his god. He may be promising to never lust after a man again. He may be promising to never have sex with a man. None of us know whether he is promising anything.

The realities for Ted Haggard are bleak unless he is able to accept his homosexuality.

1. Denounce his homosexuality as sin and try to live a life within the confines of his religious beliefs. (He has already tried that, and he obviously had problems with being able to live as a homosexual male in a heterosexual marriage.)

2. Deny his homosexuality, and pretend he was just tempted by satan. (This is a popular solution, but it won't solve anything.)

3. Accept his homosexuality but promise to never act upon his homosexual desires. (He obviously has trouble already not acting upon his desires.)

3. Accept his homosexuality and find a church which doesn't discriminate against homosexuality.

4. Be driven by feelings of depression, isolation and self loathing to the point where he can't take it anymore and commit suicide.

Personally, as much as I consider him to be a hypocrite and a liar, I would not want him to pick door number 4.

Whichever solution he chooses, his credibility as a person who preaches against the "evils" of homosexuality, is null and void.

"and then turn around and do it again, or something similar, will I be forgiven? No."

You can't speak for god. Remember, daniel, it is supposedly god who judges, not you.

"he ascended into heaven and sitteth at the righthand of the father, from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead."

Pretty self explanatory if you believe in the christian god. God judges, not you.

Daniel,
There is only ONE sin that will not be forgiven, Not Believing.

As for the paper doll analogy, you'll have to explain that one to me. (One of my favourite songs is the Mills Brothers, 'I'm Gonna Buy a Paper Doll.')

"if there is no god, then what is morality?"
I am SOOO tired of this morals argument. It makes me want to go commit a crime. If you and others need an external farce (I'm going to leave this typo) to prevent you from running amuck then there is little hope for the human race. It does, unfortunately, present a positive argument for the existence of religion.

RE: Baptism
It doesn't get you into heaven. What I said was, lack of it prevents you from getting into heaven.

I want you to READ the bible Daniel. It is one of the most obscene books ever printed.
