BEEP! BEEP! IT'S ME.

"Begin at the beginning, and go on till you come to the end: then stop." (Lewis Carroll, 1832-1896)

Alice came to a fork in the road. "Which road do I take?" she asked."Where do you want to go?" responded the Cheshire cat."I don't know," Alice answered."Then," said the cat, "it doesn't matter."

"So long as I get somewhere," Alice added as an explanation. "Oh, you're sure to do that," said the Cat, "if you only walk long enough."

"All right," said the Cat; and this time it vanished quite slowly, beginning with the end of the tail, and ending with the grin, which remained some time after the rest of it had gone. "Well! I've often seen a cat without a grin," thought Alice; "but a grin without a cat! It's the most curious thing I ever saw in my life!"

I am diagonally parked in a parallel universe. Like Arthur Dent from "Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy", if you do not have a Babel Fish in your ear this blog will be completely unintelligible to you and will read something like this: "boggle, google, snoggle, slurp, slurp, dingleberry to the power of 10". Fortunately, those who have had the Babel Fish inserted in their ear, will understood this blog perfectly. If you are familiar with this technology, you will know that the Babel Fish lives on brainwave radiation. It excretes energy in the form of exactly the correct brainwaves needed by its host to understand what was just said; or in this case, what was read. The Babel Fish, thanks to scientific research, reverses the problem defined by its namesake in the Tower of Babel, where a deity was supposedly inspired to confuse the human race by making them unable to understand each other.

Imagine There's No Heaven

~
Atheism is nothing more than the noises reasonable people make when in the presence of religious dogma. The atheist is merely a person who believes that the 260 million Americans (87% of the population) who claim to never doubt the existence of God should be obliged to present evidence for his existence and, indeed, for his benevolence, given the relentless destruction of innocent human beings we witness in the world each day.

Only the atheist recognizes the boundless narcissism and self-deceit of the saved. Only the atheist realizes how morally objectionable it is for survivors of a catastrophe to believe themselves spared by a loving God while this same God drowned infants in their cribs.

I could hope for a heaven for the people I love, but I would NOT hope for a hell for anyone.

I don't believe in heaven or hell, but let's say for argument's sake... that a hell exists.

I would under no circumstance worship a being which would torture its creations for eternity.

In fact, I would consider it my duty as an ethical, moral person to rebel against such a being if it existed. As such a being would be a sadistic thing indeed.

You are being a literalist in determining what Hell is really like, beep. In my view, Hell is simply a state of not being in God's presence for eternity. That would be Hell.

If I am being a literalist about what hell is, it is because christians cannot agree on what hell is.

They continue to move the goal posts concerning the definition of hell; what it is, where it is, and how you end up there.

For you, you choose the "comfy version", the "hell is separation from god version".

400 years ago, your own christian borthers might have burnt you at the stake for such heresy.

Yes, but unlike Islam, Christianity has been through many reformations and there are many different ideological offshoots of Christianity. The two main ones being Protestantism and Catholicism. Why do you paint all Christians with the same brush?

RE the troll:

Islam is not practiced identically either.

There are fundamental muslims who believe in the inerrancy of the quran and believe it literally; just as there are fundamental christians who believe in the inerrancy and literal nature of the bible.

There are muslims who are quite liberal in the readings of the quran as there are also christians who are liberal in the interpretations of the bible.

"Liberal" meaning generous. As in ~ many individual interpretations of the bible and or quran.

There appears to be more cults of christianity than of islam. This is probably because christian has been around for about 400 years longer.

RE: "Why do you paint all Christians with the same brush?"

All people of blind faith concern me.

I don't trust their ability to make sound judgements because of what they are prepared to take on faith.

People with no faith concern me. I don't trust their ability to make sound judgements because of what they are not prepared to take on faith. Afterall, if one believes there is no God, what is stopping them from thinking THEY are capable of doing whatever they want. This has actually been seen in Godless civilizations of the past and present (North Korea, China, and Russia to name a few).

RE "Afterall, if one believes there is no God, what is stopping them from thinking THEY are capable of

The reason that large %s of people in the world don't do horrendous things to each other is because

they are basically well socialised, compassionate, psychologically healthy, people.
Not because they are believers in religion or believers in an invisible being.

Personally I feel sorry for people who claim that it is only their religious belief that stops them from

being a raving, psycopathic killer, or a murdering, sadistic rapist.

RE "Religion is an insult to human dignity. With or without it, you'd have good people doing good things and evil people doing bad things, but for good people to do bad things, it takes religion." ~ Steven Weinberg

I agree with Weinberg, for good people to do bad things, it takes religion.

RE "This has actually been seen in Godless civilizations of the past and present (North Korea, China, and Russia to name a few)."

Welcome to your never-ending fascination with logical fallacies.

Correlation implies causation, also known as cum hoc ergo propter hoc (Latin for "with this, therefore

because of this") and false cause, is a logical fallacy by which two events that occur together are

prematurely claimed to be cause and effect.

Firstly you would need to claim that those civilizations were godless. A difficult task for you as you are primarily relying on your own nation's propoganda as evidence.

Secondly, you are commiting the logical fallacy of correlation implying causation. That is, you believe that because they were godless they behaved in a certain way.

Not one of those countries mentioned went on a rampage in the name of atheism. Not one of those countries went to war under the flag of atheism. "Religious countries" ALWAYS go to war and kill in the name of their god or gods. It is their way to call for their god to give them victory, and they slaughter, maim and rape with a smile on their faces as they do it for their god. God belief is a mental illness.
